1 Hakuza 1-26-7 Higashiyama Kanazawa produces 98 percent of Japan's gold leaf. At this specialist shop in the heart of Higashi Chaya, you can buy all kinds of gold-leaf-decorated products, including chocolate cake. It's worth popping in just to see their gilded kura (storehouse). Opening time: Daily except Wed 10am–5.30pm
2 Ishikawa-ken Kankō Bussankan Kenroku-en-shita 
076/222-7788 This two storey tourist shop has a good selection of everything from food products to washi paper and pottery. A variety of craft classes are also held here. Opening time: Daily except Tues 10am–6pm
3 Kaburaki Shōho 1-3-16 Nagamachi 
www.kaburaki.jp This kutani pottery shop in the heart of Nagamachi occupies an elegant old house surrounded by pleasant gardens. Opening time: Daily 9am–6pm
4 Kanazawa Craft Hirosaka 1-2-25 Hirosaka Sells some of the best examples of Kanazawa's traditional crafts and hosts special exhibitions of work on its second floor. Tues– Sun 10.30am–5pm
5 Sakuda 1-3-27 Higashiyama Another dazzling shop specializing in gold-leaf products, from beautiful screens to gilded golf balls.
