2 I-no-Ichiban 1-9-20 Katamachi 076/261-0001. The entrance to this hip, modern izakaya, on the ground floor of the Sekano Building, is hidden behind a mini bamboo grove. Sit at the bar beside the open kitchen so you can watch the chefs at work. Opening time: Daily 6pm–3am
3 Pole Pole 2-31-30 Katamachi 076/260-1138 Directly behind the Indonesian restaurant Legian, on the road running parallel to the Sai-gawa. Cramped and loud reggae bar serving scores of cocktails and a range of beers, as well as abundant supplies of monkey nuts, the shells of which litter the floor. Opening time: Daily 7pm–5am
