The railway station is in the town centre, with the State Bus Stand, which operates a left-luggage service (daily 4.30am–10.30pm), just behind. The back of the station leads into hectic Paltan Bazaar, where most of the private bus companies are based. Guwahati's airport is 18km west of the centre. Minibuses for travel all over the city can be flagged down by the roadside.
