Jaisalmer's railway station is 2km east of the city. Touts and rickshaw drivers are held at bay outside, while sandwich-board toting hoteliers line up in the parking lot. The majority offer free rides; otherwise an auto-rickshaw into town costs Rs20–30. Government buses stop briefly at a stand nearby before continuing to the State Bus Stand southwest of the fort. Private buses drop at Air Force Circle south of the fort. A tourist tax of Rs20 (plus Rs10 per car) is levied on all foreign visitors, on arrival at either the bus stand or train station, or in your vehicle if arriving by private transport.
