Getting around
Jaipur is very spread out, and although it's possible to explore the Pink City on foot (despite the crowds), you may need some form of transport to get you there from your hotel. It's best to avoid the morning and evening rush hours, especially within the Pink City. Auto-rickshaws are available all over the city, although prices are relatively high, as are cycle rickshaws, though these can take forever to get anywhere in the heavy traffic.
Unmetered yellow-top taxis have a stand on MI Road outside the RTDC tourist office; radio taxis charge Rs8–10/km and rarely take more than ten minutes for a pick-up; try Pink City (
0141/222 5000). Cars with driver can be rented through most hotels and guesthouses, or through any RTDC office. Typical costs are around Rs400 return to Amber, or Rs700 to Samode.
