Eating
Chung-Wah Hotel Lee Garden, VIP Rd Run by a Chinese family from Kolkata, this is one of Puri's most popular Chinese restaurants, with fast, efficient service and a good choice of fish dishes.
Green Lane Garden Restaurant off CT Rd Very good for seafood. The menu lists fewer dishes than are actually on offer, and if the fish of your choice isn't available at lunchtime there's a good chance the chef or one of his relatives will have caught it by evening.
Harry's CT Rd One of the town's most popular budget places, this pure-veg restaurant serves tasty Indian food made without onions or garlic in Hare-Krishna tradition, and good freshly pressed juices.
Mickey Mouse CT Rd A popular place for a late-night drink, with the loudest music and the most original lampshades. Very laid-back service and chess sets provided.
Peace CT Rd Friendly place, with tables in the garden, serving all the usual fare but specializing in seafood.
Phulpatna Toshali Sands, Konark Rd The distinguishing feature of the Phulpatna's menu is that it includes recipes revived from Kalingan times. Regardless of their derivation, the dishes are delicious, and tables by the large bay windows give a relaxing view of the gardens below.
South Eastern Railway BNR hotel, CT Rd Idiosyncratic colonial charm, with checked tablecloths, silver butter-dishes and waiters in pukka turbans. The poor-value set menus are less memorable. Non-residents should give a couple of hours' warning.
Trupti CT Rd Indian veg restaurant serving a good range of regional thalis. Especially busy at lunchtime. Also has a sweet counter.

Wild Grass Corner of VIP Rd and College Rd, 2km from the CT Rd ghetto. Popular with the locals, serving superb tandoori, seafood, vegetarian and Orissan dishes at very reasonable prices, with tables spread around a beautiful leafy garden. Open for lunch and dinner.
Xanadu CT Rd Easily the best of the cheapies with a pleasant garden and extensive menu, including a special children's breakfast.
