Eating
1 Bhuvanashree At the top of Station Square next to the Jajati hotel Excellent, clean veg restaurant with some south Indian food, a choice of thalis and good coffee. Opening time: Closed Tues
2 Dalema Bhouma Nagar Dark, simple place offering authentic Orissan dishes like macha bhaja (fish curry), chengudli tarkari (prawn curry), dahi machho (river fish in yoghurt sauce) and a variety of vegetables. Main courses are inexpensive. Price: About Rs45

Dalma Sachivalaya Marg This modest but celebrated eatery, named after Orissa's most popular traditional vegetarian dish, is one of the few places in Bhubaneswar providing authentic and complete Oriya meals. The dalma (potato, brinjal and other vegetables cooked in dhal) is complemented by bharta (mixed vegetable curry), besara (very hot curry) and a variety of fish dishes. Generally regarded by city residents as the place to go for traditional regional cuisine. Highly recommended. Price: Mains from Rs60
4 Fahien and Mohini At the OTDC Panthaniwas, Lewis Rd Fahien and Mohini offer identical multi-cuisine menus, but the former is more comfortable.
5 Hare Krishna Jan Path, just north of the junction with MG Marg, entrance up a flight of stairs in a small market. Quite expensive, with waiters in dinner jackets rather than dhotis, but the food is strictly ISKCON-style (the Hare Krishna movement's unique cuisine, without garlic or onions): vegetarian and delicious.
6 Maurya Gardens 122-A Station Square, next to and part of the Richi Smart interior and reasonable prices. Serves Indian and Chinese food, specializing in tandoori dishes.
7 Rice Bowl Shahid Nagar. Excellent prawn and fish curries, as well as Chinese cuisine that's a cut above much of the budget-range competition. Price: Mains from Rs70
