avantika@mptourism.com This MP Tourism-run hotel has an institutional feel and is let down by its location 2km out of town, near the bus station for Mandu. The best bet for budget travellers is the partitioned dorm (Rs90), which has comfortable beds and clean sheets; the four private rooms are overpriced, but it holds a good restaurant. 5 Rama Krishna Station Rd (Subhash Marg), opposite the railway station 0734/255 3017 A notch above the other flophouses in the station area; the large but tired rooms have attached bathrooms with hot water. But while the rooms themselves are pretty clean, the bedding is not. Look out for the large "RK" sign on the roof, as it's easy to miss the entrance. Price: Rs301-500

Home to the good Nauratan restaurant. Complimentary breakfast and noon checkout provide the icing on the cake. Price: Rs1001-1500
