Nightlife

Author Pick 13th Floor 13th Floor, Ivory Tower, MG Rd Lean over the outward facing bar, cool cocktail in hand, and enjoy the hubbub of the city from a bird's-eye view. Classy and cosmopolitan, with stunning city and sunset views and cool post-mod decor, 13th Floor is an absolute must, but come early because it fills up fast.

The Beach 1211 100 Feet Rd, Indiranagar 080/4126 1114 The music can get rather loud on weekends, but you might not mind so much while sipping expertly made mojitos with your feet in the sand.

Coco Grove Church St Sidewalk terrace garden, good for people-watching over a beer or cocktails.

Author Pick Couch 1st Floor, SAI Complex, west end of MG Rd Cool and cavernous bi-level lounge with stone floors and stylishly mismatched retro furnishings. Grab a booth near the front windows and enjoy a well-made cocktail or two as life zooms by below. Also offers a full international menu. Opening time: Daily 11am–11pm

Fuga 1 Castle St, just off south end of Brigade Rd. A glowing marble bar, black and white leather banquettes, renowned guest DJs, and absinthe make this Bengaluru's swankiest club.

Guzzlers Inn 48 Rest House Rd, off Brigade Rd A decent Indian stab at an English pub offering MTV, Star Sport, snooker, pool and good draught beer.

Author Pick Hard Rock Café 40 St Mark's Rd, at Church Rd 080/4124 2222 Upon opening in early 2008 this gorgeous, multi-room space inside an old stone library quickly became the buzzing nexus of Bengaluru nightlife, not to mention the finest bar and grill in town. With high, vaulted ceilings, gray stone walls and subtle accents, it feels both lived in and new.

Pecos Rest House Rd, off Brigade Rd Three dank levels of rock posters and aging wood make up the definitive Bangalore dive. The tunes are hard-driving, the beer's cheap and the Indian grub ain't half bad.

The Pub World opposite Galaxy Cinema, Residency Rd Stylish pub with lots of TVs and semi-private booths, popular with trendy young professionals.

Taika 206–209 The Pavilion, 62 MG Rd This expansive and slightly scuffed top-floor club is one of the most popular student nightspots in town, with a spacious, raucous dance hall and soothing, couch-filled lounge.
