India Guide
Haryana and Punjab
Arrival
The Inter-state Bus Terminus (ISBT) is on the south edge of the main commercial and shopping district, Sector 17, but services from Punjab and Himachal Pradesh (Shimla excepted) may leave you at Sector 43 bus stand, connected to the ISBT by regular local buses. Chandigarh's airport is 11km south of the city centre, its railway station 8km southeast. Both have pre-paid auto-rickshaw counters with fixed rates, as does the ISBT (the booth is at its northern corner). A pre-paid auto to the ISBT from the airport costs Rs83 (a taxi is around Rs200), or Rs51 from the railway station; a pre-paid auto from the ISBT to the Rock Garden is Rs29. There's a rail reservation centre at the ISBT (Mon–Sat 8am–2pm & 2.15–8pm, Sun 8am–2pm).
