Boat trips to Thailand

Despite its potential as a great river highway, the Lancang River has never seen much traffic, and today the docks in the north of town at the junction of Galan Lu and Jinghong Bei Lu are usually moribund. The only vessels you're likely to see are the tour boats to Thailand, which leave twice a week and take two days to reach Chiang Saen. Tickets cost between ¥400 and ¥600, depending on the boat. The easiest way to buy a ticket is through a tourist agency.
