The Xiaoyan Ta or Small Goose Pagoda is a 45-metre-tall, delicate construction, founded in the Tang dynasty in 707 to store sutras brought back from India, and sits in what remains of the Jianfu Si. Two of the pagoda's original fifteen storeys were damaged in an earthquake, leaving a rather abrupt jagged top to the roof, to which you can ascend for a view of the city. A shop at the back of the complex sells Shaanxi folk arts.
