1 Kranzlers In the former Kempinski hotel attached to the China Southern offices, 576 Youhao Nan Lu 
0991/6388888 Excellent food in mediocre surroundings. The hotel's flagship restaurant serves up a fantastic-value Arabic and Asian all-you-can-eat lunch buffet for ¥98 for two, and a dinner buffet for ¥128 for two.
2 Shahediya Yanhuiting 262 Jiefang Nan Lu 0991/8872444 Locals flock to this traditional Uyghur restaurant with byzantine interior and nightly traditional song and dance shows. Ordering can be a problem with the lack of English and Chinese spoken.
3 Sumin Niuroumian Heilongjiang Lu, next to the Dadianyuan hotel Cheap local place offering a range of noodles and a very popular ¥6–8 lunch buffet.
4 Toshkent 51 Xinhua Nan Lu 0991/88557798 Uzbek restaurant in the heart of the Erdaoqiao market, serving up Uyghur and Central Asian food at reasonable prices. The borscht and grilled lamb chops are especially popular with locals.
5 Wuyi Yeshi Wuyi Lu This night food market launches an assault on the senses as crowds struggle through the fug of cooking smoke to gorge on cheap and plentiful delicacies from all over the country. Fires up daily from 8pm until late.
