The Kashgar Silk Road Museum holds an Iron Age mummy recovered from the desert hereabouts, still dressed in felt hat and fur-lined jacket, woollen trousers, leather boots, and a belt with herbs and a knife attached. There are also examples of various ancient scripts found at Silk Road sites, including Indian-derived Kharosthi (from Khotan), along with the usual run of pottery, wooden and metal artefacts, some of which date back to 1000 BC.
