The Northwest

Arrival

There are biweekly (Wed & Sun) flights to and from Xining, Xi'an and Qingdao; airport buses into town cost ¥10.

Golmud's train and bus stations sit facing each other in the south of the city. Heading on to Xining is probably easiest by train: there are two fast trains daily (14hr) and one slow (16hr). The evening bus to Xining takes sixteen hours, while a car service takes half that (9am & 11am; ¥150). There are sleeper buses (9am & 6pm) to Dunhuang in Gansu province (8hr).
