Coloane
Coloane comprises nine square kilometres of hilly parkland, more colonial fragments and some decent beaches, making it a pleasant place to spend a few hours. The Parque de Seac Pai Van (Tues– Sun 9am–7pm; free) is home to a white marble statue of the goddess A-Ma – at 19.99m high, the tallest in the world, and pretty Coloane Village on the western shore, is good for irresistible natas, Portuguese egg tarts, sold at Lord Stow's Bakery.
The beach at Hac Sa, tree-lined and stretching far off round the bay, is without doubt the best in Macau, despite the black colour of its volcanic sand, and has cafés, bars, showers and toilets as well as some fine restaurants nearby.
From Almeida Ribeiro, buses #21, #21A, #26 and #26A go to Coloane, via the Hyatt hotel in Taipa.
