    1 Cheers Near the Aquarium Open 24hr for serious drinking, with a wide range of cocktails for £E20 and very cold beer. The wide-ranging menu includes burgers for £E15 and good breakfasts.

    2 Juke Box Pub On the Corniche As a bar, it's pretty tacky, but it does have a rooftop beer garden with good views, and it serves food and stages sporadic bellydance shows.

    3 Nirvana Hospital St Dark pub-like bar with a few tall stools out front and a dart board. Stella is a reasonable £E10. Popular with Russians.

    4 Author Pick Papas II Below the Juke BoxPub Similar to its older sister bar in Sigala, with live music from homegrown bands several nights a week. Food is reasonably priced and varies from stuffed jacket potatoes to calamari.

    5 Author Pick Peanuts Hospital St Lively Dutch-run spot, with a modern interior and funky lighting, pub grub, and steaks from £E55 and sangría at £E5 a glass. Heineken on tap. Karaoke in five languages on Wed, disco on Sat, live pop and rock on Sun. Opening time: Open until 2am

    6 Hard Rock Café cross from the El-Smaka hotel 065/346-5170 Popular branch of this international chain decorated in rock memorabilia. A spacious outdoor area, pool tables, live music and DJs after midnight. Opening time: Noon–3am

    7 Papa's Bar Opposite the Redcon Mall www.papasbar.com Dutch-run bar, full of diving instructors and popular with foreigners in general.
