The Red Sea Coast and Eastern Desert
El-Quseir
EL-QUSEIR, 85km from Safaga, is a sleepy place that seems mostly unaffected by tourism, despite the presence of holiday villages on its outskirts. The main orientation point is a traffic roundabout where service taxis drop and wait for passengers, near a Co-op garage and the Sea Princess Hotel. The road bearing off to the right leads to a small harbour where you can watch men building boats on the beach, or stroll past shuttered and balconied houses to reach a mosque dating back to the thirteenth century and a quarantine hospital built to screen pilgrims in the nineteenth century.
