Arrival

While the train and bus stations are both central, service taxis use the Arba'in terminal beside the El-Mallah Canal on the edge of the old quarter (£E5 by taxi from the centre). Assyut's tourist office (daily except Fri & Sat 8.30am–8pm; 088/230-5110) on the Corniche will send someone to meet you at the train station, given a day's notice.
