Church of St Saba

    Opening time: daily 7.30am–12.30pm & 3.30–6pm

Across the road stands the Greek Orthodox Church of St Saba, built over an ancient temple of Apollo. The seventeenth-century church contains a marble columnar tablet on which St Catherine is said to have been beheaded, a giant bronze bell, and relics of Patriarch Petros VII, killed in a helicopter crash on Mount Athos in 2004.
