I’m heading to Ushuaia next year to depart on a long-anticipated Antarctica trip. It’s my first time in South America and I don’t have time to travel around – just some days before and after the trip (and that is extremely flexible) – so thought I’d just make the most of Tierra del Fuego this time around.
Does anyone has any experience/special recommendations for places to stay for singles (not hostels) and unmissable places to visit?
Tierra de Leyendas (www.tierradeleyendas.com.ar/) is my favourite place to stay in Ushuaia; the food’s excellent too. Another good, and cheaper, option is The House (www.thehouseushuaia.com/). Staff at both are very friendly, so good for single travellers.
In terms of activities, a boat trip on the Beagle Channel, and day-trips to Estancia Haberton and Parque Nacional Tierra del Fuego are musts. A more quirky attraction is the former prison (once known as the “Siberia of the South”), which has now been turned into a fascinating museum, the Museo Maritimo y Presidio. Make sure you try the fresh king crab (centolla) too.
