Marrakesh and Essaouira

Hi folks

Off to Morocco in a month (4 days Marrakesh, 3 days Essaouira). Been to Marrakesh before – does anyone have any tips on more unusual things to do there? And any tips for Essaouira, or places to eat in either, much appreciated.

If you’re ever in need of a meal with something a little stronger than mint tea, Cafe Arabe in Marrakesh (www.cafearabe.com/) has a gorgeous roof terrace and does some lovely cocktails. I’d definitely recommend trying to find a cooking course, too. I spent an afternoon learning how to make tagine in my riad, courtesy of the owner’s sister, but there are lots more out there…

Maybe a day at a surf school in Essaouira?

Thanks Ellie! Am planning to do a cooking course as it turns out, but will check out Cafe Arabe for sure…

If you didn’t go last time, I would recommend a day trip to the Ourika Valley, the cool breeze and waterfalls make it seem worlds away from Marrakesh. If you can, plan your trip for a Monday and stop off at the weekly berber market – great for a glimpse of rural life.

I’m off to Essaouira this summer as well and have been thinking about doing some kitesurfing, heard good things about it! Might be a good option?

Essaouira is lovely. I would recommend to have a meal in the fish stalls at the Port. Very nice and cheap.
Like Olivia mentioned the Ourika Valley is a must, closer to Marrakech than the Atlas mountains in case you are running out of days and want a bit of adventure.
