My friends & I are going to be Goa in mid-October this year. This is going to be our very first time in India, we’re super excited and equally clueless. Would be great if someone in the know could recommend us places to stay & see there. Would be greatly appreciated!
Wow – lucky you. I’ve never been to Goa (or indeed India – will have to rectify that soon), but our Goa destination page should provide a starting point:
India’s Things Not To Miss page offers some overall ideas:
And this experience from our Make The Most Of Your Time On Earth book is worth a read:
I’m sure some of the other editors have a few ideas…
Okay, first off to answer your question properly we could use a bit more info.
How long are you in India for? Is Goa your only destination or a starting point? What are your likes/dislikes on things to do? Your tastes/budget on accommodation?
Until then, have a look here for all the basic info you need.
Thanks for the answers, guys! We’re going for 9 days only (during Eid al-Adha) so we don’t have much time, sadly. We already booked our tickets for Istanbul-Mumbai-Istanbul. We initially planned to do Kerala, then Goa and a couple of days in Goa but looks like 9 days is nowhere enough to do this properly. Also seeing as October is quite rainy in the South, we have decided to leave Kerala out and do Mumbai & Goa only. Decisions, decisions!
“Also seeing as October is quite rainy in the South”
Rain should be over by Oct except a rare afternoon shower. Tides will have turned, and the beaches will be swimmable.
Hello, I have been to a few places in India : Goa and Andaman and Nicobar Islands to be exact.
Apart from the beaches, there is the beautiful Basilica De Bom Jesus, Se Cathedral and a Shri Mangueshi temple to look at. There are always organizers beach side that offer banana rides, jet skiing, elephant rides, para-sailing. But to be honest, the most enjoyable time for us was renting scooters and riding in the Goan rains!
There shouldn’t be much of a problem travelling to Goa in October. Bougainvillea Guest house in Candolim, North Goa will be good for your stay. I agree with @OneManWolfPack here, there is nothing like going around goa on scooters.
