Flamenco in Barcelona
Hello Fellow Travelers –
I’ll be in Barcelona with a friend at the end of the month.
We’d like to see some flamenco while there, and would rather do so in a small venue that isn’t touristy (if that’s possible).
We’ll have the nights of April 25, 26 and 27. Any suggestions for dance or other performances that are a must-see?
Barcelona has a few well-regarded and longstanding flamenco venues, although understandably not as many as you’d find in Andalusia, Spain’s traditional flamenco heartland.
The following three venues all have shows for at least one of the dates you mention:
Tarantos (plaça Reial 17, Barri Gòtic, €8-€10 entry) hosts three sessions every evening, if you prefer an easy introduction to the art.
Meanwhile, Jazz Sí Club (c/Requesens 2, El Raval, €9 inc. first drink) puts on a flamenco show every Friday at 8.45. On other nights, its gigs might take in jazz, blues & Cuban music.
For full immersion into the scene, visit the famous Tablao de Carmen (Poble Espanyol, Montjuïc). It’s a rather more expensive evening, with various drink & dining packages available for its two nightly shows – from €39-€77 per person – which include pre-show entry to the Poble Espanyol (Spanish Village) complex. Reservations are essential.
Hope these are a good starting point & have fun!
