Sri Siva Subramaniya temple
This dazzling Hindu temple surprises many visitors to Fiji’s tourist capital, Nadi. Just ten minutes from the airport, past the Hilton and Sheraton hotels, it suddenly appears – a slice of the subcontinent transported to the South Pacific. The temple is testament to Fiji’s 300,000-strong ethnic Indian population, many of whom can trace their roots to labourers brought here by the British. Visit during the Thaipusam festival (end Jan) and you’ll see pilgrims piercing their flesh in grisly acts of devotion.
