Salvation Mountain
One sight you shouldn’t miss around southern California’s Salton Sea is Salvation Mountain – a fantastic work of religious folk art that has been worked at continuously since 1985 by its founder, Leonard Knight. He has devoted his later life to this wildly coloured mass of straw and adobe, liberally painted with extracts from the Bible and exhortations to “Repent” – there’s even an abandoned motorboat to represent Noah’s Ark.
