MAXXI gallery
Shaped like a massive, jagged spaceship and designed by landmark architect Zaha Hadid, MAXXI is Rome’s newest art gallery. Inside it’s all black stairs and bridges, gleaming white walls and huge, airy halls – an impressive space for a collection of twenty-first century works, including Gilbert and George, Andy Warhol and Anish Kapoor. Located in a quiet and unassuming residential area, the groundbreaking gallery is a controversial but welcome addition to the ancient, relic-strewn “Eternal City”.
