Floating market on the Mekong River near Can Tho
To the Vietnamese the Mekong Delta region is known as Cuu Long, or “Nine Dragons”, after the nine tributaries of the Mekong River that spread out across its plains. The rivers and canals here are home to dozens of floating markets, where locals sell produce from the area’s many orchards. The early morning sight of clusters of boats piled with fruit is one of the most memorable and distinctive images of Vietnam.
