Fishing
Braiding out across vast wetlands of southern Laos, the Mekong River creates a landlocked archipelago of “Four Thousand Islands”: Si Phan Don. A playground for Southeast Asia’s few surviving freshwater Irrawaddy dolphins, it’s also heaven for fish – two hundred species swim these waters, and islanders go to extreme lengths to catch them, hurling nets off slippery rocks or balancing on bamboo scaffolds above whirlpools.
