Dinosaur National Monument
Though it was commonly known that the northwest corner of Colorado once teemed with dinosaurs, it wasn’t until the 1909 discovery of eight brontosaurus tailbones that excavation really started. The Dinosaur National Monument was originally created to preserve the precious embedded paleontological remains before the park boundaries were extended upstream to include a maze of gorges harbouring some stunning Native American rock art sites.
