Ölüdeniz, the “Dead Sea”, lies 12km south of Fethiye, below the sprawling resorts of Ovacık and Hisarönü. This azure lagoon, now part of a nature park, features on countless Turkish travel posters and is one of Turkey’s iconic sights. The area southeast of the lagoon, fronting onto an attractive sandy beach, has developed into the popular resort village of Belceğiz – though it is far more commonly referred to, even by locals, as Ölüdeniz. Belceğiz holds sufficient accommodation, cafés and bars to attract one- and two-week holidaymakers, and is also a world-ranking spot for paragliding. It’s also handily located near the start of the waymarked Lycian Way walking trail.
