Eating

In spite of its wide range of accommodation, Üçhisar has relatively few restaurants to write home about. Many hotels offer half-board and average food. An exception, Les Terrasses D’Üçhisar is open to nonresidents, and serves fine Turkish food with a French touch for around 25TL a head. The smart Lil’a, in the Museum Hotel, is recommended for its magnificent views, and creative organic Turkish cuisine. A full meal will set you back around 60TL, but it’s well worth it for a treat. The best place in town is the open-air Centre, on the village square, which serves quality traditional Turkish mezes and grills at a good price.

Wine tasting is possible in many of Cappadocia’s wineries, but Kocabağ Kav Butik in Üçhisar is among the best venues for sampling the finest products the region has to offer. It’s worth remembering that Cappadocian whites are generally more elegant than reds, which tend to be a mixture of the acidic local varietals. Kocabağ winery’s shop is located on the main road heading west out of town from Belediye Meydanı.
