Piata Mare

On the western side of Piaţa Mare stands the handsome eighteenth-century Brukenthal Palace, housing the eponymously named museum, one of the finest in Romania with an evocative collection of works by Transylvanian and Western painters – look out for Jan van Eyck’s Man in Blue Turban. The city’s History Museum is nearby in the impressive Old City Hall. On the northern side of Piața Mare, the huge Catholic church stands next to the Council Tower, which offers fine views to the Carpathians.
