Basse Normandie

Heading west along the coast of the region known as Basse Normandie, which starts west of the mouth of the Seine, you come to a succession of somewhat exclusive resorts: Trouville and Deauville are the busiest centres, while Honfleur is a delightful medieval port. Continuing west brings you to the beaches where the Allied armies landed in 1944, and then to the wilder, and in places deserted, shore around the Cotentin Peninsula.
