State buses arrive at the stand next to the Polo Ground and private buses at their individual offices, most of which are on MG Avenue, 200m north of Khwairamband Bazaar. The state tourist office (Mon–Sat 9.30am–5pm, Oct–March 4.30pm; closed 2nd Sat of month; t 0385/222 0802) is at Hotel Imphal, north of the palace on the main Dimapur road. The India Tourism office is on Jail Road (Mon–Sat 9.30am–5.30pm; t 0385/222 1131). Travellers can get permits endorsed at the Foreigners’ Registration Office along from the GPO on Secretariat Road. The State Bank of India on MG Avenue has a foreign exchange service.
Imphal has a few decent hotels including ITDC Imphal, North AOC, Dimapur Road (t 0385/222 0459; Rs501–1200); Anand Continental, Khoyathong Road (t 0385/222 3422; Rs501–1200); Nirmala, MG Avenue (t 0385/222 9014; Rs501–2000); and White Palace, MG Avenue (t 0385/222 05999; Rs300–700).
