State-run and private buses pull into the Town bus stand in the modern main bazaar, near the river confluence and Tata headquarters; state buses continue through town, terminating nearly 3km south. For most hotels you should ask to be dropped off at Old Munnar, 2km south of the centre, near the ineffectual DTPC tourist office (daily 8.30am–7pm; t 04865/231516). A better source of information on transport, accommodation and day-trips, including to Eravikulam, is the helpful Joseph Iype, who runs the private Tourist Information Service (no set hours; t 04865/231136 or t 9447 190954) from a small office in the main bazaar. He has useful maps and newspaper articles, can arrange transport for excursions, and will doubtless bombard you with background on the area.
You can change money at the State Bank of Travancore, the State Bank of India or at numerous ATMs around the town. Internet access is available from a couple of places including Alpha Computer Centre (Rs50/hr), next to the Tamil Nadu bus stand.Read More
