Both Moscow and Kiev can be bitterly cold in the winter, with subzero temperatures being reached daily (Moscow’s average winter temperature is around -9°C, Kiev’s is closer to -4°C). It’s worth being aware that temperatures can plummet even lower, cold snaps often bring at least -20°C temperatures to Moscow, in fact both cities have experienced at least -30°C temperatures in the past. However, there are still many reasons to visit these cities in the winter – beautiful snow-blanketed scenery and fewer crowds are definitely draws. Just remember to pack lots of layers, warm hats, gloves and waterproof footwear with nonslip soles so that you can make the most of your trip!
My friends visited Russia during winter time. They told me that the place they went to (Altai Krai) was gorgeous… It was cold, but they survived. They told me it was a wonderful experience. But they also mentioned that the same temperature in Moscow feels like hell. It’s more humid there.
