Where to travel from Bolivia with a young family

Avatar Image

We will be volunteering in Bolivia for 3 weeks in March (flying into Santa Cruz) and would then like to travel and see some more of South America. We have 5 young kids (ages 2-10) and we love the outdoors and mountains and have about 5 weeks to travel. Where would you recommend that we visit? Would it be worth making our way down to the mountains of Argentina or Chile? (we have already seen Peru). We would look at flying back to Canada out of whatever country we explored.

Thank you so much for your help! It is really appreciated.

I’d give at least a little time over to Bolivia – pretty sure your children (and you) would be totally wowed by the Salar de Uyuni and the Eduardo Avaroa national park which adjoins it, with its colourful lakes, flamingos and geysers. You tend to do both of those as part of the deal when you sign up for a trip. The only issue is the altitude – it can get quite uncomfortable (particularly at the park) if you’re not acclimatised. And Santa Cruz is in the lowlands.

I can’t comment on Chile but Argentina is a blast – how about whale-watching around Puerto Madryn?
