“Holy Liverpool” – I like that, Jatin! – a succinct take on the poet Allen Ginsberg’s 1965 remark that the city was “at the present moment, the centre of consciousness of the human universe.”
Hopefully Chelsea’s victory the other day hasn’t put you off. In the city centre you must simply stroll about the waterfront, from the Albert Dock to the so-called Three Graces. Then take in Castle Street and all the lovely old buildings round there before heading up to the devastatingly handsome Hope Street, which has a cathedral at each end. For a more natural sort of beauty, go to the beaches at Crosby (with its “iron men”) and Formby (near a red squirrel sanctuary) or head over to the Wirral which has pretty little Thurstaston beach and traditional English seaside towns such as West Kirby.
Well I am actually FROM Liverpool (and Ginsberg was right! It still is! ;D ) so hopefully these will help.
And I’m sorry to disagree with Neil but Kirkby is NOT a place to go for a traditional seaside town!! Head a little further out into Southport for that (get the train from central station).
