Hi there, I spent a few weeks travelling round Turkey for Rough Guides and buses are definitely the preferred way to do long journeys. They’re regular, well run and invariably air-conditioned. Some offer free refreshments and wi-fi. For shorter trips people often use vans that are known as dolmuş (the “ş” is a “sh”) – you can hail these at any point along their route and the destination is shown on a sign in the front window. Trains do exist but I only used this mode once. I know there’s supposed to be a high-speed Ankara–Istanbul route opening in 2015.

choose Bus or plane/ Trains to Anatolia ( Asian Part of Turkey ) is not working at the moment from Istanbul due to high speed railway construction. You can go coastal parts of country by plane also/
