Hi, my sis and I are travelling to Germany in June. We will be going to Berlin and Munich. We wish to explore the blackforest in between but we are not sure how to travel around the area. Is it by bus or train?

You’ll have no problem getting to most of the main places (and some smaller villages) by train – there are a couple of train lines that run through the Black Forest region, one (for example) running north-south from Karlsruhe, through Baden-Baden and to places like Triberg right in the heart of the Black Forest. Another possible base is Freiburg, which is well connected by trains and buses, and a good starting point for exploring the southern Black Forest. For route planning, Deutsche Bahn’s website (http://www.bahn.com/) is pretty good – and it’ll give you the bus options for any place not on a train line. It might be worth you looking into some of their train passes, such as Länder-Tickets (the Baden-Württemberg one for the Black Forest), which can be good value when there’s more than one of you travelling. And, of course, have a look here for some more ideas:
