Edinburgh restaurant

I’m off to Edinburgh this weekend for the 6 Nations rugby and am looking for a place to have dinner on the Saturday night (it’s bound to be busy – will try and book, if not too late). Any suggestions for a fun, buzzy bistro/gastropubby type place serving good comfort food like burgers, fish and steak etc not far from the centre (doesn’t need to be hugely central, actually – anywhere will do)?

Thank you,

Lucy

I’d recommend The Outsider, 15-16 George 4th Bridge (0131 226 3131): amazing food with lovely view of the castle at the back. Also The Holyrood 9A – http://www.theholyrood.co.uk, great for a fancy burger…

If you don’t mind catching a bus, head west to the Caley Sample Rooms on Angle Park Terrace (bus # 4, 34, 35 or 44 will drop you right outside) or to Leith’s Roseleaf (catch any bus down Leith Walk, get off at the foot of the walk and make your way down Constitution Street to the shore area) – both fit your description and are well worth the short hop out of town. If you decide to stay put, Joseph Pearce’s, at 23 Elm Row, is a good bet for decent burgers and pub grub. Mind you, Andy’s right… the Holyrood 9A burgers are excellent too. So many choices!
