Can anyone give me a rough estimate for a daily budget in Madagascar? I am planning on doing it the backpackers way, as cheap as possible without missing out too much

Hi again Robert,
I visited Madagascar on my honeymoon (rather than as a budget traveller) and found that food and accommodation was very reasonably priced.
Here’s the website for the mid/top-range hotel where I stayed in Tana (which I’d heartily recommend) so you can see some sample prices: http://www.sakamanga.com. The conversion rate at the moment is 1 GBP to 3,788 Ariary, so it’s pretty favourable. A delicious zebu steak at the capital’s best restaurants was £5+ so I’m sure that you could eat well on a budget.
The main cost of the trip was the international flight to get there and a couple of internal flights for getting around. Bear in mind that the island is enormous so focussing in on two or three destinations that really take your fancy would be more relaxing than zipping around, and easier on your wallet.
