Can anyone recommend somewhere to stay in The Berkshires area for a few nights relaxation, walking, exploring?

Hi @AW, There are lots of places to choose from up there!
Some friends of mine recently stayed at The Red Lion Inn, which they described as “the quintessential Berkshire retreat,” though it is not a B&B, per se. The Red Lion is located in Stockbridge, Massachusetts, right near the Norman Rockwell Museum and close to Tanglewood (home to the Boston Symphony Orchestra during the summer months).
Very near Tanglewood–and Edith Wharton’s summer cottage, The Mount–is the Kemble Inn in Lenox, which boasts of “the county’s finest breakfast,” according to the New York Times.
Some well-regarded B&Bs include the Wainwright Inn (Great Barrington), The Inn at Sweetwater Farm (North Egremont), The Inn at Stockbridge, and Windflower Inn (Great Barrington). Additionally, you might check out http://www.ruralintelligence.com, an online resource for news/lifestyle in the Berkshires and surrounding areas.
Best of luck, and enjoy your trip!
I agree, The Red Lion Inn is a true Berkshiresque
treat – built in 1773 I believe.
If looking for something contemporary I would go
to Mepal Manor and Spa in New Marlborough.
It is part of The Old Inn on the Green also a historic Inn and
restaurant. If looking for Luxury in a mimamalistic
sense I would have to say The Whaetleigh Inn which neighbors
Tanglewood and the Stockbridge Bowl. There is also
Cranwell Resort and Blantyre.
I have not been to the Wainwright but always hear lovely things.
It never hurts to ask reservations about their inclusive
weekend packages. This is still their off season.
Mepal Spa is very relaxing – and last but not least there is
Canyon Ranch and Kripalu for yoga and rejuvenation.
