Adventure travel advice

Hi guys,
I am traveling to Mumbai for 3 weeks in September and I really want to ask local community for an advice.

My goal for this trip is to discover the core of india. I don’t want to see usual sightseeing or crowded tourist places. I want to see some unusual place with a soul!

I am interested in:

- emotion places like – Dharavi slum, etc
- local culture places – something like Varanasi
- wildlife
- hiking (2-3 days track), rafting, mountain biking
- local food
- religious festival celebration

THANKS A LOT! VACLAV :))))

Hi Vaclav,

I had a few days in Mumbai in February and LOVED the city. My first piece of advice would be to stay with locals, that way you really get to know a place and they have all the best recommendations and knowledge! I used Airbnb.com to book a stay with a local couple in Mumbai – they were lovely, the room was great and they took us for a morning walk along Marine Drive where all the locals do their morning exercise!

I wrote an article for Rough Guides on how to live like a local in Mumbai, including where to eat local food – you can read it here: http://www.roughguides.com/article/things-to-do-in-mumbai/

I didn’t explore the surrounding areas of Mumbai much as I moved onto Kerala afterwards, but if you have any questions relating to Kerala or Rajasthan I’d be happy to help!

Have a fabulous trip – India is my favourite country I’ve visited so far!
