I'm a U.S. guy who has lived in Thailand for a number of years with my partner. I'm sort of retired, but take on technical writing gigs when I'm needed. Grew up in a small fishing village in Southern New England, graduate school in Chicago. You know you have traveled quite a bit when immagration in New York say's he has not seen such a thick passport from an American. I have traveled in North and South America, Europe, Asia, Australia and Africa. I consider myself a smart traveler who get's his bang for the buck. I often travel in off season to take advantage of great prices, short que's, no reservations, and get to see the same sites that would cost double in high season. In every country that I travel in I learn some of the language basics and it really does help break the ice with the locals, especially when you try and say something that you did not mean. Lot's of laughs! Don't take the little things too seriously when you travel as stuff happens. Smile, be polite, and have fun!
